Teen motorcyclist dies in Union Co. crash


The Union County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.

18-year-old Andrew Davidson was part of the department's Explorer program and was training to become a reserve deputy.

He was heading home from work around 2:30 Wednesday morning when his motorcycle crossed the center line in a curve on Maynardville Highway and hit a tractor trailer. Troopers say Davidson was driving too fast.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Troopers say no charges will be filed.

School raises $6K for heart association


A small East Tennessee elementary school is celebrating after they raised thousands for a disease affecting one of their fellow students.

In total, Paulette Elementary School in Union County raised $6,000 for the American Heart Association this year. Friday, the students watched as administrators ran through a "Duck-Dynasty" themed obstacle course.

One of this year's highest fundraisers was a kindergartner named Milah. She was born with heart disease and survived open-heart surgery at the 18 months old.

State audit finds multiple problems in Grainger Co. government


State officials are concerned about a number of problems found in a recent audit of Grainger County.

The State Comptroller's office listed a number of issues in multiple departments in a press release Monday, and recommendations for fixing them.

Fire destroys historic Sneedville church

(WBIR-Sneedville) A fire destroyed a historic church in Sneedville on Monday morning.

It happened at Briar Creek Baptist Church around 8 a.m. The building is a total loss.

Hancock Co. church destroyed by fire


A Hancock County church was destroyed by fire Monday morning.

According to Joe Davis, Pastor of Briar Creek Baptist Church in Sneedville, all that's left standing of the small church is the block walls of the sanctuary. They also lost the fellowship hall, which is connected to the main church building.

One of the firefighters, who is also a deacon of the church, was able to cut a hole through a wall into the pastor's office so he could save the church records.

Three taken to hospital after car flips in New Market


(WBIR - Strawberry Plains) One person had to be flown to the hospital via Lifestar Saturday afternoon after a vehicle flipped on Old Dandridge Pike near Strawberry Plains.

According to the New Market Fire and Rescue Chief Sammy Solomon, emergency crews had to fly an unidentified woman to UT Medical Center for her injuries. Another man and a child were also taken by ambulance to UT Medical for their injuries.
