5 arrested in Grainger Co. prostitution bust


(WBIR) The Grainger County Sheriff's Office arrested five people after law enforcement busted a home in Rutledge for prostitution.

On Thursday afternoon, law enforcement raided a house located at 3422 Highway 92.

(WBIR, Harrogate) It's been three years since the Commonwealth of Kentucky voted to loosen their laws on selling fireworks, making them essentially the same as in Tennessee. Depending on who you ask, the effects of the laws can be felt.

Rutledge man charged with shooting father in the face

(WBIR) Grainger County deputies said a Rutledge man shot his father in the face early Thursday morning.

A witness told deputies William Gregg, 32, shot his father, 70-year-old William Gregg, in the face at his Rutledge home on 148 Cockrum Road. The two were apparently arguing about the handgun and why the son had it.

A helicopter flew the father to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition.

Death penatly still a possibility for accused pharmacy shooter

The man charged with killing two men and injuring two others during a pharmacy robbery spent the morning in court fighting the possibility of being sentenced to the death penalty.

Investigators said Jason Brian Holt went o the Down Home Pharmacy in Bean Station in May to steal prescription drugs. While there, he shot and killed the pharmacist and owner, Stephen Lovell, and a 72-year-old customer, Richard Sommerville. Pharmacy technician Alexia Gail Wilson and Janet Colleen Clift were also shot but survived.

Hancock woman arrested on child sex abuse charges

(WBIR) Kentucky authorities arrested a Hancock County woman on child sex abuse charges.

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) arrested Rebecca Gibbs, 24, on June 4th as part of an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. ICAC began investigating Gibbs when it learned she might have been producing and distributing explicit images of minors.

Rebecca Gibbs has been charged with two counts of 1st degree sodomy and one count of being a fugitive from another state.

Man charged with stealing medication from delivery truck

(WBIR) Union County authorities have arrested a man after he tried to steal medication from a delivery truck this week.

The Union County Sheriff's Office and Maynardville Police got a report of a man taking two totes of medication from the Union Discount Pharmacy and driving off in a silver car Tuesday. When deputies tried to pull the car over, the driver refused to stop.

After a short pursuit, the car crashed and the man tried to run away from officers on foot. Deputies caught him and arrested him.

Two men fight off home invasion suspect in Union Co.

A Union County man and a friend said they fought off an intruder who broke into a home earlier this week.

According to the Union County Sheriff's Department, a 911 call sent deputies to the home just before 10 am. The home's owner said an armed man wearing a black ski mask forced his way into the residence and told the man to "give him everything they had."

The homeowner and another man fought back, and the intruder eventually left the house in a red vehicle. No one was hurt and nothing was taken.
