Superstorm Sandy delays flights in East Tennessee

Thousands of flights are canceled throughout the country. At McGhee
Tyson airport, as of 8:00 am Tuesday 6 flights had been canceled with
more expected throughout the day and Wednesday.

The cities affected are New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.

If your travel plans include Atlanta and Charlotte, those destinations are showing on time departures, however, you might have s canceled flight from there.

The airport in Chattanooga shows no cancellations. The Nashville airport has cancellations all over the Northeast.

Sometimes you know the ending of a story before it even begins.  They're almost "cut-and-dry" -- you've seen them as viewers and we've covered them as journalists.

10News initially thought the following story fell into that category. However, before it aired we asked a couple of questions.  That's when the story and the people involved in it reminded us that things are not always as they seem.

She started her Halloween decorating tradition when her boys were young.

Wanda Bentley still tricks out her house in Grainger County even though her oldest son is 40.

"This is my favorite time of year," Wanda Bentley said.

Every fall, she transforms her home into a haunted house with horrifying touches.

"I've just collected it over the years after Halloween I go to the stores and if they've got it on sale I'll get some," she said.

Frightful touches include skeletons and spiders and rats in the sink.

A Claiborne County man has come up with an invention to make it easier to resist the temptation to text behind the wheel.

He and his wife Cledis will celebrate 60 years of marriage next month.

"My wife and I, she raised the kids and I raised the churches you know," Claude Chumley said.

He is a semi-retired baptist preacher living in New Tazewell. He served during the Korean War, later survived cancer, and then prayed for direction.

Grainger Co. residents pray for attacked Washburn student

Grainger County residents are praying for a girl who sheriff deputies was beaten so badly by her peers, she had to go to the hospital.

Authorities say four female students attacked another 15-year-old female student at Washburn School Monday. The victim was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Members of Sunrise Baptist Church in Rutledge opened their Wednesday service with a prayer for the girl. Pastor Scott Howerton said incidents like the one authorities say happened at Washburn School prove violent acts can happen anywhere.

Teens charged with assault at Grainger school

Teens charged with assault at Grainger school

A Grainger County high school student has been released from the hospital after being treated for injuries received in an assault at Washburn High School on Monday.

In a news release, Grainger County Sheriff Scott Layel said four teen girls were arrested in connection with the assault on a 15-year-old female victim.

One of the girls was charged with aggravated assault and the other three were charged with assault, Layel said.

The victim was being treated at UT Medical Center and was listed in good condition, according to Layel.

District Attorney General closes marina investigation where two boys died after being electrocuted

District Attorney General James B. Dunn announced on Monday that he is closing the inquiry into the deaths of two young boys electrocuted while swimming at a Grainger County marina on the Fourth of July.

Dunn said he has "pursued a rigorous investigation into this tragedy," but after extensive review, he concluded that this incident does not have basis for criminal action.

Ten year-old Noah Winstead of Morristown was pronounced dead soon after he was electrocuted at German Creek Marina. His 11-year-old friend Nate Lynam was removed from life support the next day.
