While heavy rain in the summer might have ruined lots of cookouts and picnics, for Tennessee electricity customers the cloudsthat brought the rain came with the proverbial silver lining.

Hydroelectric dams have been in overdrive for much of the year, producing cheap energy that has brought down energy bills across the state.

Officials ID mother & son who died in Grainger Co. fire

(WBIR) State officials identified the mother and son killed in a Grainger County house fire days before Thanksgiving.

A spokesperson for the Tennessee State Department of Commerce and Insurance confirmed that Barbara Jean Bowens, 34, and John Cena Bowens, 3, died after their home in Bean Station caught on fire Monday, Nov. 25.

State fire investigators believe a kerosene heater in the living room sparked the fire.

Trial dates set for Grainger Co. pharmacy shooting suspect

(WBIR - Rutledge) The man charged with killing two people and wounding two others at a Bean Station pharmacy earlier this year was back in court Monday morning to set dates for several hearings leading up to his murder trial.

In Rutledge on Monday morning, the courtroom at the Grainger County Justice Center was packed as Jason Bryan Holt made an appearance to schedule the various deadlines for his murder trial scheduled for September 2014. Holt is charged with killing two people and wounding two others during a robbery at the Down Home Pharmacy on May 23, 2013.

Two weeks after a group of inmates escaped the Grainger County jail, county commissioners got their chance to ask some questions Monday night.

(WBIR) Family members say a woman and her young son were killed in a Grainger County house fire Monday morning.

The Grainger County Sheriff's Department confirmed the fire happened on Brantley Acres off Helton Road shortly after 10 a.m.
