East Tenn wakes up to some snow, a little black ice

Update 8:43 a.m.

Snow and ice covered mainly secondary roads Friday morning. Crews had worked into the night covering main roads and highways with salt.

The following is a list of East Tennessee and southern Kentucky counties with respective road conditions. This list will be updated throughout the morning.

Thursday: Rain moving in during the morning hours and continuing into the afternoon. Rain is then expected to change to light snow by mid-to-late afternoon as temperatures start to fall. A light accumulation or dusting is possible Thursday night with some icy or slick roads possible. Highs in the lower 40s, but falling to near freezing by evening.

Stolen big rig was driven into Cherokee Lake

A stolen big rig has been pulled from Cherokee Lake.

According to the Grainger County Sheriff's Department, the truck was driven down a boat ramp located along Highway 25E near the Grainger/Hamblen County line. It was discovered Monday morning, and has been pulled from the water.

A tanker was attached to the tractor, but it had been abandoned on a back road in Grainger County.

Investigators are working to discover where the tractor-trailer was taken, and who stole it.

TBI: Grandmother allegedly shoots grandson before killing herself

(WBIR) Officials said they believe a grandmother shot her 10-year-old grandson before killing herself near an abandoned house in Grainger County Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

A woman, who lived next door to the abandoned house, found the two bodies on the 8800 block in Rutledge shortly before 8 a.m. and called police.

Officials identified the victims as Deidre Thacker, 45, and her 10-year-old grandson Jaden Thacker. They're both from Sharps Chapel in Union County.

Nearly 2,000 graduates in black caps and gowns received their diplomas at the University of Tennessee Friday, but one journalism and electronic media major had no idea her younger brother, who has been deployed for the past 16 months, flew home to surprise her on stage.

After years of work, free clinic opens in Claiborne Co.

(WBIR-Speedwell) After three years of work, Servolution Ministries free health clinic is open to the public.

The facility, housed in the former Powell Valley Vocational School in Speedwell, offers free services in general care, physical therapy, and soon dental work -- among other items.

CEO Edwin Robertson said volunteer work and donations were able to get this up and running.

Blaine neighborhood watch sees results after string of break-ins

(WBIR-Blaine) A group of residents in Blaine have seen results after forming a neighborhood watch in response to a string of burglaries.

At the peak of the break-ins, Grainger County Sheriff's Office deputies were searching for three inmates on the run.
