More than 80 dogs taken from Union Co. home


MAYNARDVILLE - A Union County couple is facing animal cruelty charges after more than 80 dogs were seized from their home.

Overturned garbage truck blocks section of Maynardville Hwy.

Crews shut down part of Maynardville Highway in Union County Wednesday morning because of a crash during winter weather involving a garbage truck.

The incident happened between Hickory Valley and Sharps Chapel, on the north side of Seymour ridge.

Troopers on the scene told 10News a truck was going down the hill when it began to slide. It hit a guard rail then slid over and landed on its side.

The driver was a little shaken up, but did not go to the hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

THP: Pedestrian hit and killed in Grainger County

A Bulls Gap man died after being hit by a vehicle Sunday afternoon in Grainger County, according to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The report prepared by Sgt. Robert Greer said the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on State Highway 375 in Bean Station.

According to the report, Shea Collins ran from a driveway into the roadway where he was immediately hit by a 2003 Ford heading south on the road. The vehicle was driven by Michael L. Roach, 45, of Bean Station. Roach and a passenger were uninjured.

Deputies arrest third suspect in Speedwell ATM theft

Claiborne County deputies arrested a third person in connection with an ATM stolen from a Speedwell bank.

Officials charged Lucas Alan Brooks, 24, of Speedwell with burglary, theft, and vandalism along with other charges from previous incidents. Authorities also arrested Walter Shawn Patterson, 33, of Speedwell and Amy Brooks, 30, for the same charges.

Grainger Co. bridge memorializes fallen soldier

Friends, family, and officials dedicated an East Tennessee bridge to memorialize a fallen soldier from Grainger County.

The bridge, located at mile marker 35 on Rutledge Pike, now has a new name, Sgt. Jesse J. Coffey Memorial Bridge. Sgt. Coffey was killed in action while serving in South Vietnam in April 1966,

Claiborne Co. miner dies in rock collapse

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - A 31-year-old Tennessee man has died in a mining accident in southeastern Kentucky.

Justin M. Mize of Harrogate, Tennessee, died after an accident at the Tinsley Branch Mine in Bell County just after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday according to a news release from the Kentucky Division of Mine Safety. Mize was attempting to retrieve a broken chain in a 68-foot hole when he was hit by a rock.
