Claiborne Co. miner dies in rock collapse | News
MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) - A 31-year-old Tennessee man has died in a mining accident in southeastern Kentucky.
Justin M. Mize of Harrogate, Tennessee, died after an accident at the Tinsley Branch Mine in Bell County just after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday according to a news release from the Kentucky Division of Mine Safety. Mize was attempting to retrieve a broken chain in a 68-foot hole when he was hit by a rock.
The Tinsley Branch Mine is licensed by Commonwealth Mining LLC.
State mine safety officials say they are still investigating. It is the first mining-related death in Kentucky this year.
