Teen rape victim's mom: 'You can't trust anyone' | News
A former Claiborne County Schools employee is accused of buying beer for a 13-year-old boy, then having sex with him.
According to court documents, Michelle Lynn Cox, 43, is charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of purchasing alcohol for minors and one count of aggravated statutory rape.
Detective Tammy Reagan of the Claiborne County Sheriff's office confirms that Cox was an employee with the school system. The Claiborne County School Board said Cox worked as the School Nutrition Field Manager for the school system, and that she resigned June 10.
The victim told investigators that Cox bought him beer at a grocery store, then they went to her home in New Tazewell where they had sex. He said that was not the first time the two had been together. He said they'd had sex in her van and at her home before.
"We believe it's possible that it had been going on for a few months now," said Det. Reagan, who handles the sex crimes and child abuse cases for the sheriff's office.
Cox is also accused of buying liquor in Knoxville for a minor and a friend.
The victim's mother spoke to 10News on the condition we do not reveal her identity. She said the boy was friend's with Cox's child.
"I tried to make sure he's safe, but it shows you can't trust anyone," she said. "This has ruined our lives."
She also said she hopes justice is served.
The warrant for Cox's arrest was issued Monday. Cox voluntarily came to the sheriff's office. She is out on bond. Her court date is set for July 18th.
