Students learn real world science on Physics and Chemistry Day

High school students from Tennessee and Kentucky learned how science works in the real world.

On Thursday, 250 students from four area high schools attended Physics and Chemistry Day at Walters State Community College's Claiborne campus.

They saw how astronomy, martial arts and machines all used physics and chemistry during a presentation, and during hands-on experiments with Walters State students.

"The main goal is to get students interested in science-- physics, chemistry, even biology, but to get them interested in science and to peek their interest and to leave them wanting a little bit more information and go out and learn some on their own," said Kim Bolton, interim executive director of the Claiborne campus.

This was the second year for the physics and chemistry day.
