Man arrested after investigators say he shot into occupied home

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Grainger County on Tuesday.

55-year-old George "Stevie" Atkins has been charged with DUI, violation of implied consent, felony aggravated assault, five counts of felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm with the intent to go armed.

The Grainger County Sheriff's Department says the incident happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday on Rock Haven Road in Bean Station.

Officials say Atkins allegedly approached a residence and pointed a rifle in the face of a juvenile. He wanted to see a person who was sleeping inside the home.

The juvenile fled into the house, then officials say Atkins fired five shots into the home.

Investigators say they stopped Atkins' vehicle shortly after the incident. They say they recovered shell casings in the driveway.

Atkins is currently being held at the Grainger County Detention Center on a $13,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for August 6.
