Thousands pour into Grainger County for tomato festival

Thousands of people are visiting Grainger county to get their hands on the county's most famous form of produce. This weekend marks the 21st edition of the Grainger County Tomato Festival, which was first held in 1992.

Vendors and tents are full of local produce at the festival, from fried green tomatoes and roasted corn, to homemade ice cream.

On Saturday, teams faced off in a dodgeball-like game called Tomato Wars, where players hurled tomatoes at each other. The competition continues Sunday, and costs $5 per person and $25 per team to sign up. All proceeds go to the Special Olympics.

Tomato Wars begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The tomato festival has free parking and costs nothing to attend. It ends Sunday at 5 p.m.
