Police: Worker scammed Pump Springs Baptist Church

A Claiborne County church was scammed by a man helping on a renovation project.

41-year-old David Giles was working with Pump Springs Baptist Church.   They were rewiring an old school building where the church is putting a free medical clinic.

Middlesboro Police say Giles picked up copper wire from a Middlesboro electrical supply house, charged it to the church, then sold the wire as scrap at a recycling business.

Police say he also stole a tax exemption from the church.

Authorities are holding Giles in the Bell County, Kentucky jail.
