Man dies after being found unconscious in vehicle parked outside bar

The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating what they call a suspicious death, after a man was found unconscious in his vehicle parked outside a bar.

According to Detective Phillip Johnson with the Union County Sheriff's Office, Arlos Masinga, 55, didn't come home Monday evening.  The next morning, his son went to search for him, and found him outside the C&W Bar in Grill on Big Valley Road in Sharp's Chapel.

Mom charged after delivering her baby in hospital parking lot

According to court documents, a pregnant 21-year-old Tazewell woman left the Claiborne County Hospital Monday after a doctor told her doing so would result in her and her unborn child's death.   

Police say Jessica Diamond Miracle signed herself out saying she just wanted to go home.  Miracle then had a baby boy in the hospital parking lot.  

The baby later died in the hospital.  

Miracle is being charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect.  Her bail was set $50,000.  An initial court date has been set for September 27th.

President Obama has proclaimed Tuesday "Patriot Day" and the "National Day of Service and Remembrance."

Thousands of Tennesseans have fought for our country since the 9/11 attacks.

Pot plant growing in plain sight in Washburn

Drug investigators have found a 6-foot-tall pot plant growing in plain sight along a rural road.

The Grainger County Sheriff's Department spotted it Monday morning along Highway 131 in Washburn.

They say it has a street value of $1,600.

Charges are pending, but no arrests so far.

Grainger Co. takes steps at regulating pain management clinics

With pain clinics becoming a more common sight in East Tennessee, yet another county is looking to take steps to try and keep them out.

Monday, the Grainger County Commission heard from the community and voted to form a special committee to look at the ways they can regulate pain management clinics.

One possible avenue is zoning restrictions, but commissioners point out that surrounding counties have decided to deal with the clinics in differing ways.

An East Tennessee just rolled out a new program to convince students to ditch their cars and ride some bikes.

It's happening at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate.

Kristi Blaisdell is a junior from Chicago who has always biked.

She brought her own bicycle to campus her first two years but this time she left it at home.

"Being that the bikes are here I decided not to bring my bike down and I'm actually going to use Turner's bikes," she said.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- The head of a privately-run online school in Union County says it has plans to improve student performance after the state's education commissioner called the school's poor test scores last year "unacceptable."

The Tennessee Virtual Academy is operated by K12 Inc., the nation's largest publicly-traded online education company, under contract with the Union County Public Schools system.
