TBI: Grandmother allegedly shoots grandson before killing herself

(WBIR) Officials said they believe a grandmother shot her 10-year-old grandson before killing herself near an abandoned house in Grainger County Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

A woman, who lived next door to the abandoned house, found the two bodies on the 8800 block in Rutledge shortly before 8 a.m. and called police.

Officials identified the victims as Deidre Thacker, 45, and her 10-year-old grandson Jaden Thacker. They're both from Sharps Chapel in Union County.

Officials ID mother & son who died in Grainger Co. fire

(WBIR) State officials identified the mother and son killed in a Grainger County house fire days before Thanksgiving.

A spokesperson for the Tennessee State Department of Commerce and Insurance confirmed that Barbara Jean Bowens, 34, and John Cena Bowens, 3, died after their home in Bean Station caught on fire Monday, Nov. 25.

State fire investigators believe a kerosene heater in the living room sparked the fire.
